On campus - In the details

Sometimes, it's simply in the details. A subtle windowpane plaid pant and black blazer, yet keeping it fresh with a fun necklace, brooch, and vintage moccasins that would make your grandfather proud (if your grandfather was cool enough to wear these, that is).

Childs Play

In the spirit of cute kids and petite designers, Andrea helped me dig up this November 2007 Haprers Bazaar editorial with Chanel Iman, featuring kid versions of Karl Lagerfeld, Donatella Versace, John Galliano, Miuccia Prada, & Alber Albaz. Love!

fashion at your, er... for your fingertips

Meet Karl Lagerfelt, Alber Albaz, Christian Siriano, & Marc Jacobz. So maybe your tight wallet can't fork out the cash for a Chanel or Lanvin, but these quirky little creations by Mullish Muse on Etsy, the online market place for unique, handmade crafts, lets you have these designers at your finger tips...quite literally.

Sounds like a fierce tranny hot mess...in a good way.

On campus

Hardly a shrinking violet in this majestic purple cardigan with band detailing and gold buttons. A lovely watercolor color flower print skirt in sherbet colors with tan ballet flats. Spring has most definitely sprung from this chic students wardrobe.

Here, Kitty Kitty

What do you get when a pop culture icon and a make-up mecca come together? A collaboration that is too haute for words.

Boys will be boys

no one exciting to photograph today, instead I found this wonderful picture of a dandy school boy. This is how I felt in class today...

Born to Blossom

To spread my excitement for the season (even though the weather is being ridiculously inconsistent) I've decided to share this wonderful editorial from Vouge Hommes Japan, shot by Oliviero Toscani. Aren't they just fantastic and beautiful?

Spring Back

From the boys (and girls) of Brixton, to the psychedelic sights of the sixties, spring fashion seems to have taken a page from the past this season. From geometric prints and patterns, to flowy silhouettes and structured boy blazers, I'm not sure if I want to skank or mellow out. Maybe it's the new sense of polictical activist that sparked some nostalgia in these designers. Whatever their source of inspiration may be, i'm digging it.

Oh yea, happy first day of spring!

Sweet & Sour

Though seemingly sweet from a glance, this charming little collection of jewelry will definitely make you do a double-take. Though cutesy at first, these bow-embellished pieces are not for the prim and proper conservative Cathy next door.

Second Grade Sartorialist

Meet Arlo Weiner. Arlo is the eight-year-old son of Mad Men creator, Matt Weiner, and quite possibly the best dressed second grader in the Continental U.S.

Arlo was featured on GQ's men.style.com where he dicusses the development of his person style, as well as some of his favorite pieces. The profile features ten pictures of Arlo's favorite outfits commented on by the premature fashionista himself. I guess when your dad produces an ultra stylish show set in the sixties, some of it is bound to rub off...

On campus - Dandies & Desert boots

Bow-tie and cabbie hat...need I say more?

The royal blue cardigan and brown leather dessert boot make for a perfect for class, casual cool outfit. Swap out the tee for a button and you have instant day-to-evening.

Sunnie Splurge

So it's nearly that time of year again. The frost is melting, flowers are budding, and retailers are receiving the bulk of their spring shipments. So put those boots and coat away and get into the spring of things.

Every year, as the new sunshine filters in new sunglasses are in order. Once a year around the same time I allow myself one new pair of sunglasses (this is quite possibly the only splurge I allow myself once a year). Last year was the Gucci aviators, the year before Marc Jacobs shield frames, and this year? The Ray Ban new Wayfarer (2113).

I was absolutely stoked to get these, because as much as I like the Wayfarer, every pair I've tried on has been too small for my face. These have a squarer frame than the original Wayfarer along with spring hinges to accommodate my big head. So overall? The Wayfarer 2113 in tortoiseshell, a classic, timeless, commodity. Until next spring...

Pick of the week 3/13/09

3.1 Phillip Lim - Phyll Document Attache

Known for his street elegance, with use of jersey draping and  industrial trimming for a casual but cool throwback style, Phillip Lim has grown to become one of the top new influential designers of our decade. Lim was awarded the CFDA award in 2007, which is considered one of American fashions highest honors.

Last spring Lim brought us a collaboration of cool sandals (for both men and women), and now the piece I found myself not being able to live without is this envelope clutch. Simple, elegant, and chic. What more could you ask for?

On campus/8am and fabulous, whats your excuse? - 3/11/09

I really love this understated chicness. Here we have a black textured crop jacket, with an easy linen shirt underneath, followed by a dark blue cigarette leg denim and a black croc-embossed ballet flat. The simplicity of the outfit is great, but there is also a great mix of textures from the jacket, shirt, and shoe. Perfect for spending the morning and afternoon in classes. Ladies, id love to see more of this and less of the UGG and PINK sweat suit combo.
